Legal Structure
The Whatcom Family & Community Network (WFCN) is the organization’s new name representing the merger in January of 2000 of two local organizations, the Whatcom County Commission on Children and Youth and the Whatcom County Community Network.
The Whatcom Family & Community Network is incorporated in Washington State and registered with IRS as a 501(c)(3) private, nonprofit organization. Our tax identification number is: 91-1631944. Doing business as WFCN, the organization is also authorized by the Washington State Legislature as the Whatcom County Public Health and Safety Network established in 1994 under Engrossed Second Substitute House Bill 2319
and functions as the local Community Mobilization Against Substance Abuse Policy Board.
Board
The Whatcom Family & Community Network has a 23-member Board of Directors that represents the diversity of leadership in our community
with 15 members focused on governance and 8 members functioning as an Advisory Board. The
Governing
Board meets monthly and oversees the operations, policies, fundraising, and planning of the organization.
The full Board meets semi-annual to help assess and set strategic directionfor the organization.
Staff
WFCN employs staff to provide organizing, facilitation, and administrative support and
also
contracts with
additional
resident organizers and groups for grassroots-level work.
